I am nearly finished the Catch-22 Audio Book by Joseph Heller. Indeed, I am about 3 chapters from the end, and the crux of the plot is really moving now.
I have loaded my awesome new MEC Brio 70 backpack that Sheri gave me for my birthday with jugs of water, my lead diving weight belt, and some towels for comfort while I train for the West Coast Trail. Walking Daisy has been a bit of a challenge with the pack on, I would guess it weighs about 70 lbs, perhaps more.
Daisy has had a haircut, and looks quite nice with her schnorkie “schauzer” cut now – even if I did badly nick one ear with scissors, and minorly nick the other with the clippers…
This weekend Sheri and I are off to hike the Cape Beale trail to prepare for the West Coast Trail (August 20th). I have new pictures of our recent hike to Carmanah and to Botanical Beach. I hope to create a static page with descriptions and pictures soon.
I finished listening to The Borderlands of Science: Where Sense Meets Nonsense by Michael Shermer. It was well done, in a similar vein to Why People Believe Weird Things. He did wax on too much about A.R. Wallace and his being overshadowed by Darwin, but Shermer did study Wallace in great depth in University I believe, so he had copious amounts of material.
Other than that, it was a good listen. Otherwise I am working my way through:
Ulysses by James Joyce (Unabridged Audio): Good, but I am working on it at 1 chapter per week.
War And Peace by Leo Tolstoy (Unabridged): Taking a long break from this – when the writing is good it is incredible. When it is ordinary it makes for an overtly long listen.
The Aeneid by Virgil: I listen to this when walking Daisy (With my new large MEC pack on my back filled with water bottles and weights to train for the West Coast Trail)
Catch-22 by Joseph Heller (Unabridged): I listen to in my car to and from work.
I am averaging 2 books a week in audio format just by listening when walking the dog, driving, or mowing the lawn. Ulysses and War and Peace, well, those are taking me a little longer
